Q&A
- What is the estimated cost for filling a bag?
A. If you catch things on sale (such as school supplies) it should cost approximately $20.00. - What are the dates for the mission?
A. In recent years, due to school calendars, we leave the day after Christmas and return around January 3rd, 4th, or 5th. Those that cannot stay the entire time, can fly in and out at a pre-arranged different schedule. - Where exactly do you go.
A. We work in the area of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, and Dr. Arroyo in Nuevo Leon. Our base is at the Bethshean Mexico Mission in Estancia de Animas in Zacatecas. It is about 2 hours from San Luis Potosi, and about an hour and a half from Aguascalientes. Each day we travel out from camp and usually go to three different areas. The last 4 days we drive about 5 hours north to Doctor Arroyo and work in that area for a few days. - What is a typical day like once we get to giving out the Angel Bags?
A. We usually have breakfast at 7:30 or 8:00 am. We work in the fellowship hall making sure that we have enough appropriate age bags. About 1 hour before we depart camp to travel to our location, we load 2 trailers with the bags that are estimated we will need for the day. We travel to the location and usually the kids are waiting on us. We sing kid songs (in Spanish) then we get some of the children to be part of a narration of the Christmas Story. After that story we also give a very shortened version of Jesus Christ sacrifice for us and Salvation. The kids get to listen to a lesson on why it is better to give and receive. They are given a white lunch bag to decorate and a piece of construction paper folded to make a card for their caregiver. Once these have been completed, they are lined up in gender and by age and they get to receive something for their mother or father or their caregiver. Once all of this is complete they can receive their very own bag filled by you.
